This Vanity Fair Article on Sam Simpson. Diagnosed with terminal cancer two years ago, and given only months to live, Sam Simon is still alive and still racing to spend the fortune he made as co-creator of The Simpsons on causes he loves, whether he is rescuing grizzly bears (and chinchillas and elephants) or funding vegan food banks.

It only needed Ethan Brown to show up in the latest issue of Fast Company, to get hubbs very intrigued about trying out all the Beyond Meat Products.

Ingredients

Ingredients

For the Buffalo Sauce Chickpeas

  • 1.5 Tbsp Sriracha hot sauce
  • 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 15 oz can chickpeas , or 1.5 cups cooked chickpeas

White Sauce Base

  • 1/2 cup ground cashew
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 2 tbsp flour , or 1 Tbsp arrowroot starch
  • 2/3 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • a very generous dash of black pepper

For the garlic sauce

  • 2/3 of the white sauce from above
  • 4 cloves of roasted garlic , or 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp italian herb blend
  • 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Celery ranch sauce

  • 1/3 of the white sauce from above
  • 1/2 tsp ranch seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp celery seeds
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  • Make the pizza dough according to recipe. Use double the pizza dough recipe to make 2 pizzas.
  • Make the Buffalo chickpeas: Mix everything under buffalo chickpeas. Mash a few chickpeas and let sit and marinate while you prep the sauce.
  • Make the White sauce: Blend all the ingredients under white sauce base until well combined into a smooth sauce.
  • Make the White Garlic sauce: Take about a 2/3 part of the white sauce from above and add garlic sauce ingredients. Mix well. Taste and adjust and mix or blend.
  • Make the Celery Ranch: Add the ranch seasoning, celery and vinegar and mix and keep ready.
  • Shape the pizza dough to a 10 inch rounds with thick edges so the sauce does not flow off the pizza during baking. Brush olive oil on it. Drizzle enough garlic sauce on the dough to coat. Add spinach or greens or other veggies of choice.
  • Layer buffalo chickpeas on the greens. Drizzle some buffalo sauce from the marinade.
  • Drizzle a generous amount of celery ranch. Add vegan mozzarella cheese shreds (optional). Try any of my cheeses
  • Bake at pre-heated 425 degrees F / 220ºc for 14 minutes. Broil for a minute to crisp.
  • Drizzle any leftover garlic sauce or celery ranch before serving.

Seriously, I am blown away with this recipe.

I just made it and I’m still licking my lips. That garlic sauce? What?! That is the single most delicious vegan thing I have ever eaten.

I made your white garlic crust… wowza. My husband was seriously impressed.

He said it was without a doubt the BEST home-made pizza he has ever had. He is a serious meat lover and I have made a ton of meaty and cheesy pizzas, so that is saying a lot.

I made a guacamole sauce with the rest of the white sauce base, simply because I didn’t have any ranch spice or celery seeds. And had an avo waiting to be eaten, so it seemed an easy combo…

I also used beans instead of chickpeas. mmm…

Okay, I know, I know, I’m going on about this – but it is seriously THAT good. So happy I made enough for two pizzas now we have some for lunch tomorrow 🙂 W00t!

    Hi Richa,

I’d love to make this for a gluten and dairy free family. They’re actually having a potluck get-together for try their 6-year-old, who’s moving up to 1st grade. Any suggestions on how to make it really mild but still flavorful or maybe barbeque sauce would be a good sub? Also, i can look for your gluten-free crust on your site but of you would add a link to your comment “easily gluten free with my gf crust” perhaps others may find it handy…merely a suggestion. Looking forward to trying this out! I love all your recipes…so creative. Thank you

holy heat batman!! This packs a punch and I only had 1T hot sauce on hand. And I like spicy normally. The other sauces were great though( garlic sauce=yum). And I love the idea of using the chickpeas for the ‘meat’. I will try this another time but sub in a BBQ sauce for the buffalo sauce 😉 Thanks!!

    1. Richa says:

i usually double the hot sauce, but thats just me 🙂 use any favorite thick sauces with the chickpeas, bbq, teriyaki etc.

It took me a while, but I am finally making this pizza. The dough is rising right now. I am excited 🙂

    1. Richa says:

yay! this is definitely a super fave in our house too. i just make a white or white + wheat pizza dough, shape it and let it rise near the oven while i prep the other things. ground up the cashews in the magic bulltet, make sauces, toss up chickpeas and load everything up and bake! usually serve with a little extra drizzle of both the hot sauce and celery sauce 🙂

      1. Nina says:

It was delicious! Just the right spice 🙂 I made the garlic dough and I liked it. My husband liked it too! And just like you said, if you have the dough ready, this pizza is a breeze to make. Yay! Thanks 🙂

    Holy eff,

I made this tonight with beyond meat chicken instead of chickpeas and mmmm smells and tastes like heaven. Best buffalo sauce I’ve had, better than the buffalo wraps at whole foods.

i hear you! i can imagine this pizza at another awesome level with beyond meat! yuhmm!!

  7. Nina says:
