Brownie Batter Orange Chia Shake. Zesty Chocolate Chia Smoothie to start the day or to snack on this summer. Blend chocolate chips, non dairy milk, chia with or without zest, chill and serve. Vegan Glutenfree Soyfree Recipe.

Summer heat is starting to show up in the Pacific Northwest and that means I am going to try stay away from the stove and the oven to avoid a heatstroke. And make some smoothies and shakes every 2 hours!
This chocolatey smoothie has chocolate chips, cocoa powder, chia seeds to thicken, and a bit of zest. Chia seeds get blended into the shake to make a smooth very creamy and thick drink. Chia is an acquired flavor, so use flax or psyllium husk to thicken for variation, or omit it. Add some flour for a batter like flavor. This thick dreamy shake feels like a brownie that has been blended up. Serve with chocolate chips and vegan vanilla ice cream scoop.

Would I be able to make this using cocoa powder? I don’t have any vegan chocolate chips on hand this week, and I was hoping to make this.
Oh, and could I add coffee?
Sure, use cocoa powder. The chocolate also adds a bit of creamyness, so maybe add some cashew cream as well.
Right as I’m reading this I’m watching rain fall by my window sill. Weird, amIright? 😉 ANYHOW, this smoothie looks delicious regardless! I might try it even in the rain!
Hi. With recent publicity about salmonella in flour, it’s not a good idea to eat uncooked batter, or in this case the smoothie with the flour in it. Otherwise, it looks yummy. Thanks. Lisa
Flour is optional. Salmonella is definitely a problem in flour right now. It is all over the news, so I hope everyone already knows to use other brands if they want or omit flour.
Oh my heavens. This is MY kind of treat!!!
Made this for breakfast this morning, Richa––it was decadently delicious!
Yay!!
wow! It looks amazing! 🙂
